Seven questions to answer before saying yes to a brand brief.
Turn an exciting enquiry into a clear, deliverable agreement.
What are you making?
Confirm the number, format, length and intended channels. Ask whether variants, captions, cut-downs, stills or raw files are included. Write down what is excluded as well as what is included; this makes later scope changes easier to discuss.
Who is approving it, and when?
Identify one approval contact and ask how feedback will be consolidated. Agree submission dates, response dates and the number of revision rounds. Ask what happens if feedback or products arrive late. A publication date alone does not describe the whole production schedule.
How may the work be used?
Clarify organic posting, paid advertising, editing rights, duration, territory and any exclusivity. These are commercial terms to discuss explicitly. The brief decoder highlights common phrases, but it uses keyword rules and cannot decide whether an agreement is suitable for you.
Who pays, how much, and when?
Confirm the actual billing entity, fee, currency, agreed advance, payment trigger and any onboarding requirements. Put the final scope in one document. If a term is unclear or the consequences are significant, obtain appropriate professional advice before accepting it.
